Our Clients

The common thread that weaves through our clients is stewardship.

Our clients realize that their hard work and good decisions, as well as a fair amount of good fortune, has helped them obtain a level of financial security that not all possess. This gift comes with the responsibility to preserve and maximize this good fortune so that it is not squandered meaninglessly. We work with special people doing special things. We are a Community of Stewards.

Our clients have very unique situations that may stem from their finances, businesses or personal lives.  They need highly technical knowledge. Many of our clients come to us when they realize they have outgrown their current advisor who serves everyone, but does not have the time for in-depth wealth management.  They feel confident that we are up to date and educated about the issues affecting their lives.

Because we cannot serve everyone and still provide the best service to our clients, so we work only with clients who have investable assets over $2,000,000.   No planner in our office has more than 65 client relationships – it would be impossible to serve each client at the optimal level if we had more. We have very few clients and they all require a lot of attention at various times in the relationship.  For that reason, we believe we provide our best service to families located in Kansas City.  Occasionally, there is an exception to the rule, but it is rare.

Our clients, for the most part, fall into specific niches. Working deep within these niches allows us to transfer experiences and knowledge gained by people who have “been there, done that”, hopefully reducing financial and behavioral mistakes that can be made with inexperience.

High Net Worth
Widows

These women are typically in their 40’s to their 80’s and are dealing with the experience of a spouse passing away and now being solely responsible for their own finances. The younger widows may still face children at home, and the older ones may face living completely alone. Both often have their identities shaken. We work with these women to help them get everything done that is necessary, while slowing decisions that don’t need to be made immediately so they can get their strength back first. Widowhood can happen very quickly or after a long illness. These both have an impact on how financial decisions should be made. Often, we can help with organization and detail work that may have been missed and that can cost these women if not taken care of. Women who live through the experience of losing a spouse carry it with them forever, but stability can be built, and a fulfilling life can be achieved.

High Net Worth
Divorcees

While the process of widowhood and divorce both result in managing your money on your own, the process and emotions involved are often very, very different. Divorce is a complex and expensive process. We work with women going through a divorce to help them organize and move through the process as efficiently as possible. We work closely with their divorce attorneys, CPAs and where necessary their estate attorneys to bring all the pieces together for them. We help them shift their paradigms from what was in the past to what can be in the future. May women need help uncovering assets and income as well as determining what they will need in the future and how to manage their assets and income productively in the future. When the dust is settled, these clients appreciate that we were with them through the process and also thereafter, to help them build a new life.

Retiring Baby
Boomers

Baby Boomers are retiring at a mind boggling pace, and are the youngest and wealthiest generation ever to retire, as a whole. However, unlike previous generations, they are less likely to have pensions and have the potential to live considerably longer than previous generations. Our clients in this category tend to be the break out of their families and often their friends. Many times, they are still helping their adult children and more and more frequently, are caring for very aged parents. Their great financial challenges and stresses can cause them to make impulsive decisions without guidance. They don’t suffer from lack of information, but instead, too much information that can cause paralysis or rapid, often damaging strategy changes. We work with these clients to help them identify core values and goals and then create a plan to stay on the path they determine without distraction.

Business Owners
Planning for
Succession

Entrepreneurs are a rare breed indeed. Frequently, a business owner’s largest asset is their business and they are dependent on the value of this asset in order to maintain their lifestyle because they have not saved enough outside of the business to suffice. It is often critical before the sale of the business that a business owner knows exactly what they need from the sale, as well as the lifestyle they should expect after it is complete. Further, we work with the business owner to engage their spouse in the process, bring their professional team together and help make sure everyone works together on the same path to the same goal- adapting as necessary. After the transition, we work with these clients to help them manage their unique vision and help them avoid committing to projects that aren’t centered on their goals.

High Income Professionals Rapidly Building Assets

While most of our clients are over the age of 50, we take on a few clients in their 40s who have achieved exceptionally high incomes and who are extremely focused on building assets quickly. These clients may be the children of existing clients, but they also may be part of professions such as lawyers, doctors, business owners and executives and are often dual income earners. These clients are often juggling family responsibilities and career growth- both of which we can help guide them on. We work we these clients to help them balance the stress of everyday life while not losing sight of the long term vision.
